Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
