Grief as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.

A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was confronted by three individuals, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.

The reason of the attack remains unclear and no one has been arrested have been made, according to authorities.

Details of the Attack

Authorities revealed that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a building near the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the site overseeing the setup of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, according to reports.

"It is alleged the man was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement confirmed.

Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocked hair and clad in what appeared to be a security uniform firing shots on Stock before running away.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the crime scene.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have requested eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to come forward.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and investigators have been following their trail to establish their destination," stated a police chief.

His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"I am devastated. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"We know he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were willing to speak about. This is a devastating blow."

She requested the citizens to refrain from sharing explicit content from the incident, noting this was an deeply traumatic time, especially for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that was broadcast on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.

Apart from his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including private security, supplying high-level security services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.

He was also reportedly involved in property management and was involved in property reclaimations.

A government minister said he was angry and saddened by Stock's murder.

"He expressed his views without fear or favour. He even challenged me and my actions as a public official. He was a true embodiment of who we ought to be," was his tribute.

A political leader commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".

A broadcasting director noted that "Stock was not merely a face of a reality series. He was a gifted communicator, a passionate music lover and a warm soul who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His dedication to creativity left an indefinable mark."

In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will endure".
