The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:
- Every squad has only eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
