The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
